After an extended period of recovery the team where assigned a new mission. Reports had been received from a small Eastern coastal town called Duvall, which was about 4 hours drive from New York. Strange lights, sounds, and smells had recently been reported, and there had been a spate of suicides. The team had been assigned as consultants to the local Sheriff's Department and were instructed to contact Sergeant Evans for details. The drive down was uneventful although the team did notice an abandoned iron salvage plant on the outskirts of Duvall.

Sergeant Evans provided a list of 10 names of people who had killed themselves in the last month. They had killed themselves with a variety of methods and there was no obvious immediate connection. The team established that the first suicide roughly coincided with the first reports of the strange phenomena. The phenomena appeared to be focused around the iron salvage plant. Sergeant Evans also mentioned that a local woman called Martha had been telling everyone about an extremely weird and vivid dream she had experienced, and the team decided to speak to her before investigating the plant.

Patrons in a local bar thought the phenomena was caused by leakage from the salvage yard causing people to hallucinate. It had been closed down over a year ago due to environmental concerns. During the night the team all experienced a dream of being in a salvage yard and a huge metallic monster made of old cars which tried to crush them.

Martha lived in a small house near the salvage yard. The team paid her a visit. The house was a mess and she did not look like she had changed in a while. She described how all her chickens had been killed and some eaten. She had seen something the size of a large dog shuffle off and had found a strange slime round the chicken coup. Her description of her dream was much like what the team experienced overnight. Brian found tracks of a frog that would be the size of a human heading towards the salvage yard.

Jaroslaw sensed a moderate nearside presence in the direction of the salvage yard. There was also a broken room but he could not determine its destination. The team went to investigate the salvage yard. The broken room was inside somewhere. The room was permanently open and had a moderate friction. Jaroslaw unlocked the gate and the team entered. Brian approached a large pool and threw a piece of wood in. Ripples in the water appeared and pulled it under before releasing it again. Brian tied a bucket to some rope and started throwing it in to try to catch whatever was in the water. He failed to catch anything but several things that looked like a cross between a large tadpole and a lamprey were seen.

Brian then wanted to investigate the crane. It had a diesel generator to power the magnet, but no fuel. Jaroslaw saw a fuel container in a pile of scrap but as he climbed to retrieve it something pushed the pile over. Jaroslaw got buried but not crushed. After Brian failed to free him Jaroslaw used opening to clear a gap allowing him to leap clear.

Brian put the diesel in the generator and stare the crane. He used it to pick up a car and swing it against the pile which started to collapse. He then started driving the crane round the salvage yard. Gideon saw something with tentacles disappear into a building. The crane stepped so the team approached the building on foot. As they approached the creature burst out and charged them.

The team opened fire and Jaroslaw paralysed it with his venom pistol just as it got to them. Gideon spotted four man sized frog creatures climb out of a pond and start leaping towards the team. Jaroslaw saw lights come on in another building. The frog creatures were leaping 50 yards a time. The frogs were killed after a short fight. They were a cross between an amphibian and a human with scaly skin.

Gideon got hypnotised when he looked at the lights through his scope. Brian had to wrestle him out of it. Brian got the Crane Started and drove it into the building with the lights. After he did this there was a rumbling from a nearby pile of scrap and a 12ft tall figure formed from the scrap with eyes formed by car headlights raised itself up. Jack started firing at its eyes while Brian opened up wildly into the building. Brian was attacked by creatures in the building and he ran further into the building. Gideon followed him. Jack continued firing at the scrap creature, shooting out its eyes which made it go berserk.

Gideon got mesmerised by the lights and two frog creatures started dragging him towards one of the ponds. He managed to shake off the effect and killed one of them with his shotgun. Jack killed the other as the scrap creature charged towards Jaroslaw. He avoided it and it collapsed back into its scrap pile. Jack shouted that looking at the lights in a mirror did not cause mesmerisation so Jaroslaw searched and found a wing mirror in the junk piles. Gideon ran back into the building and got mesmerised again.

Jack and Jaroslaw advanced on the building. Inside was a frog creature pinning down Gideon and a human was standing over them. Jack lined up a shop in his mirror and shot the man in the head killing him instantly. That caused the lights to go out. Jaroslaw shot the frog creature with his venom pistol, killing him. Brian regained conscious eventually but his right arm was paralysed.

There were disturbing symbols which appeared to move painted on the walls with blood. His name was Ratcliffe Mason. There was a body which had been ripped to pieces. The human had ID and a small journal which described his divergent event.

Ratcliffe Mason’s divergent event led him to the reef where the mind-bending realities there sent him insane. He made contact with the Malvolents and struck a bargain – access to their secrets in exchange for his loyal service, Mason readily agreed. They taught him how to create a Broken Room to Earth1 and the necessary human sacrifices to power it. The Malvolents “gifted” him with their obscene offspring to infect and convert humans into his willing servants. He choose a condemned iron salvage yard as his base of operations and set to work.

Jaroslaw sensed into the nearside and felt the broken room was starting to diminish. Jaroslaw used his venom pistol to destroy the symbols. The broken room finally faded away.

Brian was dropped off at a nearby hospital before returning to Regency towers.
