An unstable interdimensional rift between Earth 5 and Earth 12 had been detected. Neil Ellington wanted a group of children to be taken through the rift from Earth 12 to Earth 5 as the rift allowed negs to travel between variants. A broken room to Earth 7 large enough for a vehicle to pass through was located in an abandoned farm in Bakersfield. The team was briefed to travel to Earth 7 and negotiate for six trucks to transport the children from Earth 12 to Earth 5 with Emma Liebowitz of the truckers at the frying pan bar and grill truck stop, Then travel to Earth 12 and convince the children to travel to Earth 5. Jack was told he should not go to Earth 7 with the rest of the team as he was not popular with the truckers.

The team were assigned a humvee and travelled to the broken room and waited for it to cycle. The transition was rough and all the team suffered. Jaroslaw then drove to the frying pan truck stop. Brian agreed that regency would supply the plutonium from 1 nuclear warhead and half a truckload of Ktech in exchange for their services. Emma also demanded that the party would go through the rift first to lay beacons to guide the truckers.

Jack was ordered to transport the supplies to Earth 7. When he arrived he got into an argument with Emma and tried to slap her. He barely avoided being shot and was told to never return to the frying pan truck shop on pain of death. The team then set off to a broken room on I405 to Earth 12. They travelled through the room and then set off towards paradise tower to collect the children.

As the team approached paradise powers they saw a group of children being pursued by two half hounds [they actually were described as looking like huge dogs that Damian Hurst had cut in half]. Jaroslaw started driving away but Brian opened fire which was ineffectual but attracted the attention of one of the creatures which started pursuing. They made it to paradise towers and drove through the gate after Jack weakened it with his breaking meridain. There was no sign of anyone about and the team broke through the front door as the half hound arrived and attacked Gideon. Jaroslaw opened fire putting two felsteel rounds into it. The creature let out a hideous cry which badly affected the team and left Brian Bleeding from his ears. Jack finished the creature off with a felsteel burst.

Brian and Jack started exploring inside while Gideon and Jaroslaw move their humvee against the gates to hold them closed. Brian found a group of children hiding in the basement. The truckers arrived a few hours later. Jaroslaw went out in the humvee to distract a swarm if smidgens that was heading towards the trucks. There was only five trucks as one had broken down.

There were over 200 children who were loaded on the trucks then the convoy headed out to where Jaroslaw sensed the rift was. Jack drove the humvee. The rift was a tunnel of swirling blue light but vanished as the team approached. Jaroslaw used opening to reopen the rift and the Humvee drove in.

After travelling a short distance through the blue light the humvee passed into an area of white mist. Jaroslaw started laying beacons for the trucks to follow as Jack drove. While doing this a strange mushroom creature was seen. It fired clouds of spores but Brian blocked them from hitting the humvee. At one point the trucks reported they had lost the beacon signals but Jack told them to continue driving until they heard the next beacon. Finally the convoy found their way to the far side of the rift.

The team emerged on Earth 5 where they contacted the midwives organisation who arranged to take and look after the children. Thirteen died on the journey. Jack then got into an argument over the missing truck. During the argument he broke the truckers iPod and was told the truckers would not deal with the team again while Jack was a member. Gideon ended up returning with the truckers to the frying pan to negotiate with Emma for some armour piercing ammo as payment for the missing truck while the rest of the team drove for a day to a broken room large enough to return to Earth 1. When he finally returned to Earth 1 he seemed to know nothing about why he went with the truckers. [Examination of his helmet camera suggested he had been drugged while with the truckers. As future cooperation with the truckers is required no further action will be taken]
