Blades in the Dark - The So Solid Crew

Finbar Mortem (Dave)

Finbar MortemMy Family lived in Doskvol. I remember my parents but mainly my mother because my father was always away on some job. I don't remember him with much joy in my heart as he never seemed to have a kind word for anyone and was quick to raise his hand when irritated. My mother was very different. I remember her laughter and the joy in her eyes …. I also remember her screams when they came and dragged her from our bed. They died away only to be replaced by the stench of burning flesh. I held onto my sister expecting our fate to be the same but I just heard the heavy footsteps of the men leaving. Where was my father!! He should have saved her. He should have died instead. That night still haunts me. Sometimes I can still feel her with me. So I drink and imbibe anything I can to take the memories away.

Since that day we have been living on the streets and in Strathmill house depending on our luck. I have been working in the docks as a lookout for the yard. Mind you I get more money for the things I don't see if you catch my drift. Its enough to pay for rent on a room/ attic, above local inn where I live with my 15 year old sister. But I have plans … plans to be big in this town. Plans to find the people who took our mother away from us. Plans for revenge. wha ha haaaa!

Narcissus Mortem (Derek)

Narcissus MortemNarsissus is a 15 year old girl. She has lived in Strathmill house and on the streets for most of her life with her brother Finbar since the death of her mother who was murdered. Shehas no idea what happened to her father who she has not seen since before that fateful day. Narsissus quickly learned that no one else was going to take care of them and survival would depend on her own and Finbar's abilities. She quickly learned the easiest route was to steal what she needed, grabbing food while a storekeeper was distracted and later how to pick pockets.

Narsissus's mother had been an alchemist and the only items Narsissus has left from her mother is some of her books, from which Narsissus has learned some alchemy herself. Alchemy skills have proved useful, it is far easier to steal from someone who is unconscious and far safer to poison your enemy than attack them with a knife.

Jude (Paul)

JudeA long time ago there was a man called Etienne Marcel. The son of a wealthy merchant family, he had a comfortable upbringing and was well placed to secure a job working as the Bursar of the Provisioning Department of the Doskvol Academy. Working in Whitecrown, with a small but luxurious townhouse in Brightstone, life was a fine thing indeed for young Etienne. But then money started disappearing. People started asking questions. It got embarrassing for the Academy when the people asking the questions started disappearing as well. Etienne was the easiest person to blame, after all he was in charge of a lot of money as Bursar of Provisioning so was well pleased to make money disappear. Was he innocent or guilty? It didn't really matter once they'd made up their mind to blame him. They tortured him to convince themselves of his guilt, but he refused to make things easy for them. He found he was made of sterner stuff than he had realised. Perhaps not confessing made him innocent? It really didn't matter because they were going to get rid of him regardless.

To this day Etienne is still not sure how he escaped on the foggy night they dragged him to the canals of Crow’s Foot for his sordid murder. Perhaps they stumbled into a crew desperate not to be seen after a night's unpleasantness? Perhaps, as Skank claims, his beggars took pity on the hapless Etienne and came to his rescue. Perhaps they stepped into a nightmare? After all there were plenty of ghosts of other poor souls who'd been executed by that canal over the years. It really didn't matter because he escaped. He ran and hid. He hid for a long time, and Skank helped him and showed him how to change. After a long time - was it years, decades? - when he stopped hiding Etienne Marcel was a forgotten man from a long time ago, and Jude was a new man looking for a new start. He’d changed so much Jude didn’t even look like Etienne Marcel. Jude didn't want revenge. He was angry, and the anger will never go away and sometimes it hurts and makes him do unpleasant things, but not revenge. Revenge is hard work and dangerous, and more importantly not profitable. Perhaps not wanting revenge makes him guilty after all? It really doesn't matter. What matters is the future, not the past. He has met people, made friends and connections, made a few enemies, and his skills learned during another life, a life he has no interest in remembering, make him a valuable asset in any crew.

John DoeMost people think I'm two fries short of a happy meal but they just don't get that I'm real social guy and if I'm not talking to you I'm talking to the dead, so please don't be rude and interrupt. I'm sure I came from somewhere and had a loving mum, dad and family but my memory is a little vague on where and who they were since the accident, I suspect that's why I am that 'wherever I lay my hat that's my home' type. A jobs a job and you have do do what you got a do to get on in life. So if I've killed you don't take personally, you're likely to become one of my long time buddies and I'm looking forward to getting to know you.
