The campaign is set in the 1920s. The campaign starts with the investigators receiving a telegram from their friend Jackson Elias about an expedition lead by Robert Carlyle. Full details are in the Nyarlathotep Papers.

Rufus Remington-Stowe (Derek)

Rufus is short and plump with a beard. Wears a scruffy tweed jacket and smokes a pipe. Is a bit tight with money. He is a professor of history at New York university. He was born in Boston but moved to New York when he was offered the job at New York university and has lived there since. He goes pigeon shooting occasionally but is not very good at it, and collects Roman and Greek artefacts.

Herbert McLean Evans (Dave)

Herbert met Jackson when he came to England to research hit book Witch Cults of England in 1919 (published in 1920). His publisher Jonah Kensington is a mutual friend as he has published some of my works in America for me. It was Jonah who suggested that Jackson come and stay at Salomons Estate for his research as I had previously mentioned about issues I have had with getting the workers on my estate to take vaccinations... they appeared to prefer to go and see some old witch for remedies. Jackson any myself had many a long discussion over this subject of witch craft and other occult activities. While he theorised that it was fear that drove people to such follies I was convinced that it was a lack of good diet and education that lead to a weekend mind and made them susceptible to such flights of fantasies.

We have a small wager of £100 over the matter. I claimed that I could rid my estate of the witches within 5 yeas by education and diet alone. To this end I have established a school and retained the help of a teacher and 2 nurses to to make sure that the staff and their children receive both. We are coming up the 5 years and I hope to demonstrate my findings to my good friend Jackson while I am in NY working on Vitamin syntheses.

Dexter Manning (Paul)

A veteran of the First World War who flew fighter planes over France in the last year of the war, and who has a limp as a result of an injury sustained in a crash landing after being shot down by Manfred von Richthofen. Dexter put up a tough fight, and The Red Baron was so impressed with Dexter’s skill that he landed near Dexter’s crashed plane and presented Dexter with his Luger. The Red Baron’s Luger has become Dexter’s most treasured possession that he always carries with him. The following day von Richthofen was killed so Dexter became the Red Baron’s last confirmed “kill”, something Dexter is quite proud of. After the war Dexter became a test pilot with The Boeing Aircraft Company where is innate abilities as a pilot and understanding of aircraft have made him a wealthy man.

Delores Swane (Paul)

Inherited the Swane Steel fortune on husband, Howard's, early death. Dolores has used her social and financial influence to become an opera "star" even though she can't sing! She’s performed in some of the most prestigious Opera Houses around the world usually as a result of very generous donations. Dolores is a good person at heart but very much a product of her privileged life: the world will work just fine if everyone recognises their place and don't get ideas above their station. The rich are at the top of the pile for a reason. Dolores is so vastly wealthy that she has little concept of actual possessions when she can get what she wants at any time. She is towering force of personality: what her wealth can't do for her then her formidable personality can.

Richmond Pooch-Porter (Stuart)

A very rich playboy type, more than capable of getting into places, either by talking his way in or maybe forging the odd invite or pass. His parents died at a young age and was subsequently brought up by his Grandfather Harold Pooch-Porter, who left him all his money after his death.

Penelope Nonstop (Warren)

A burglar and friend of Richmond.

Ailsa Mellan (Derek)

Born in Pittsburgh, June 28th 1901 Ailsa is a prominent socialite. Her father Andrew Mellan is US secretary to the Treasury. She is a friend of Delores Swane.

Wilfred Perkins (Paul)

Wilfred was born in India where his father worked for the Colonial Office. He had a comfortable childhood and received a good education but struggled at school to get along with his peers. Where they were carefree Wilfred was sullen and withdrawn. He soon came to detest this life, and at age 19 he cut all ties with his parents and childhood and came to London in order to write. Wilfred wanted to write about plight of the poor away from the life comfort and security that he knew, and so he wilfully threw himself into this life: sleeping in doss houses, no possessions, and taking a series of exhaustive menial jobs. Eventually this started taking a toll on his health so he switched to journalism as a better way of earning a pittance to survive on. His book about the poor of London was never completed because during this time Wilfred started to sense the presence of evil forces lurking just out of sight. There was something else pressing down on the poor to make their lives so destitute, something intangible and monstrous, and this is what Wilfred wanted to write about. His several manuscripts have obviously all been rejected by publishers as the deranged ramblings of a madman but that hasn’t deterred Wilfred from persevering. The first step to stopping these forces is to make people aware of them!

Milton Brook (Stuart)

Milton is a hitman for a criminal outfit. He was brought up by the leader of the outfit as his son, having been abandoned as a child.

Edward “Machine Gun” Norton (Warren)

Edward has the nickname 'Machine gun Neddy' due to bis preference for using a Tommy gun during his enforcement activities. He is 29 and from New York. He works as an enforcer for an organised crime syndicate loyal to his Don. He travelled to Nairobi as part of his work to eliminate the Bloody Tongue cult based in New York whose activities are interfering with his Don’s business.

Wong Loong Kok (Derek)

Kok is a member of the Chinese Triads and known to Milton. He was contacted by Milton when the team travelled to Shanghi to provide local assistance.
