London
28th February 1925

The ship arrived in Southampton in the morning. It was raining. They caught the train to waterloo and after dropping of the luggage visited the Penhew foundation building. It was closed but the doorman let them in after Herbert and Delores talked to him. They met the director Edward Gavigan. He said the expedition were looking for information about a dark sorcerer from Egypt's history but it proved to be a hoax. They left due to the heat and went to Kenya's uplands at suggestion of Nichonka Bunay. Artefacts sent back from expedition were in the exhibition hall.

Edward showed everyone round the exhibition. Addison hung back and stayed in his office to look into an open safe he spotted. It contained only a bag of money and he put it back. The team showed Edward the items from JuJu house and left the sceptre for him to examine as it had Egyptian hieroglyphs. He suggested the team show the rest of the items to Prof Gordon Barnstable at the British museum. They were also shown objects from the expedition not prepared for display but nothing appeared to be related to the occult.

From the Penhew foundation the team went to the British museum which was round the corner. Lothar and Herbert walked, while Delores, Rufus and Addison took a taxi. Addison and Lothar took off after a woman that suddenly ran after Lothar made eye contact with her but they lost her in a maze of alleyways. The museum was closed but the doorman took Delores telephone number and promised someone would call to arrange an appointment with Gordon.

In the evening Delores went to the opera with Lothar while the others went to Herbert's house. While relaxing they heard a noise upstairs. On investigating they were attacked by three cultists who had broken in and were wielding spiked clubs. Addison shot one twice, killing him instantly. Herbert punched another while Rufus shot the third in the chest. The one Herbert punched jumped out the window and ran off. One of the dead cultists was Indian in appearance and the other looked middle eastern. They were wearing an inverted Egyptian Ankh on a chain. The Ankh represents life so inverting it probably means death. Addison chased the third and killed him. He also looked middle eastern. He had a piece of paper with Herbert's address. He was also wearing an Egyptian Ankh on a chain.

1st March 1925

Everyone met up at Delores home. Then spoke to inspector James Harrington and got information about his investigation [See here].

The British museum called in the morning, and the team went there to visit Gordon. They showed him the bloody tongue headdress. He Thought it was connected to fertility rites to their gods. The mask was an African devil mask and he believed it was carved from boa boa wood. It came from The Congo. The Lion claws were a ritualistic item, possibly for marking warriors or victims. The bowl was not African and neither was the grey Headband. He did not recognise the runes on it but thought it was made of an unusual metal. He confirmed the photograph of the Runes from the Juju house basement walls were tribal and symbolised death and evil and from the kikuyu tribe.

The team then took a taxi to fleet street to speak to Mickey Mahoney at The Scoop. They talked about Jacksons visit. Mickey said Jackson had talked about a cult in London but did not provide enough information to make a story. Jackson asked to see the Scoops records and was interested in three stories. [see attached]

The team then went to visit the spice dealer Tewfik al-Sayed. No one answered to knocking and the door was locked so the team continued to the blue pyramid club where they asked to see the owner who was Abdul Nawisha. He only spoke Egyptian. Rufus talked to him but he was tight lipped and denied there was any connection between the murders and the blue pyramid. He claimed insult at something Rufus said and demanded everyone leave. As the team left Herbert spotted one of the belly dancers from the club beacon to him. She had overheard the conversation and said there was a group called the brotherhood who held meetings in the club and her boyfriend had been killed by them. Another meeting was due in the next few days. Abdul was aware of them and was paid to look the other way. Once a month about 2 dozen customers were taken off in a lorry driven by Tewfik. There were rumours they worshipped the black Pharaoh. She hoped her boyfriend's death could be avenged.

Addison booked into a grubby hotel opposite the spice shop to keep watch and Herbert paid some street urchins to follow Tewfik if they saw him. Addison saw someone enter the spice shop about 11pm. Addison fell asleep in his hotel room and had a very peculiar dream [detailed here]. When he woke up he saw light in the spice shop. As he watched, a figure knocked at the door and was admitted. Addison followed the figure when he left the shop. He got into the back of a car. The driver looked Indian and there was another passenger who looked like an Arab. Addison got the licence plate as the car drove off.

2nd March 1925

The team dropped into Scotland yard and asked inspector Harrington to look into the owner of the car Addison had seen the night before. He said it would take a day. They then went to the Penhew foundation to enquire about the sceptre they left with Edward. Edward was not present, and his secretary could not find the sceptre. She asked everyone to leave then she saw Herbert trying to take a journal from Edwards desk.

The team then went to visit the artist Miles Shipley. After some time an old lady opened the door. She said her son was painting. Rufus smelled something that reminded him of the reptile house at a zoo. When the tram went up, Miles was drawing frantically. He seemed distracted and suddenly announced he needed to go lie down. His paintings were very disturbing. When his mother went to make tea, Herbert found some keys and opened a closet. Inside was a covered painting of a swamp infested with serpents and an island in the centre with an altar.

As Herbert looked at the painting it looked like the water rippled, the serpents wiggled and a glow came from the altar. Herbert took the painting and hid it among others in the room before locking the closet. When the mother returned with tea, Delores asked to buy a painting. She seemed keen to sell one, but then said it was not for sale when Delores pointed at the painting that had been taken from the closet. Herbert expressed concern at Miles's health, and when she took Herbert to show him Miles's medicines, Delores took the painting down to the car.

When she was alone with Herbert, she suddenly turned and stabbed him with a syringe full of a green liquid. Herbert found he was suddenly floating in the air near some pyramids and found himself staring into the bottomless eyes of a dark figure, then passed out. She called out that Herbert had fainted, and Addison carried him down to the car with Rufus's help and they took him to his practice in Harley street. Herbert woke up to find himself floating in a vast sea. He looked up to see the earth floating above him, then passed out again. He finally woke when a doctor waved smelling salts under his nose, but could remember nothing after walking out of the room with Miles's mother.

When the doctor gave him a physical examination, he found a hypodermic puncture in his neck. Delores performed some psychoanalysis on Herbert and learned some of what he had experienced and blanked from his memory.

Anderson returned to his hotel room. He had been there about an hour when two Arabic looking men burst through the door. Addison opened fire with his shotgun. He killed one but the other barrel misfired. His attacker smashed him in the head with a club, killing him instantly.

3rd March 1925

In the morning a street urchin came to speak to Herbert. He said there had been gunfire nearby while they were watching the spice shop and the police had arrived. The team went to investigate. Delores brought a friend, Richmond, who had been visiting her. They found a policeman outside the doss house where Addison were staying. They found out Addison had been killed. When Herbert examined Addison's body he found Addison had been repeatedly brutalised and inverted ankh had been cut into his back.

Inspector Barrington provided the information that the car for which Addison got the number plate of, was registered to Edward Gavigan of the Penhew foundation. Another street urchin told Herbert that Tewfik the spice dealer had closed shop early and left in a large black car. The team decided to return to investigate the spice shop while it was believed to be empty. Richmond had lock picks and opened the back door so the team could enter. Upstairs the living room was decorated in blue and yellow. Lothar froze at the sight of the bright yellow and had to be carried back downstairs.

There was a writing desk which was locked. There was also a mirror with an unusual asymmetrical frame. When Richmond failed to unlock the writing desk, Herbert tried prying it open with a knife. When that failed, Richmond hit it with the butt of his gun, breaking the lock open. Inside he found two sandstone vials with caps, a folded silk robe, a black inverted ankh on a chain, a crumbling papyrus scroll, a skullcap with ankhs and two metal sceptres, one with an ankh and one with a hook.

The frame of the mirror was made to look like melted faces. There were unknown symbols stamped into the frame and also on the back of the mirror. Rufus took pictures for later study. Nothing else was found in the bathroom, kitchen or bedroom. Herbert stared into the mirror and he saw the faces on the frame suddenly scream. He got the feeling the mirror could be used as a scrying device or a weapon. Suddenly one of the faces stopped screaming and said 'who are you? Tewfik imprisoned us and we seek revenge. Use the sandstone vials, we can tell you how. To scry, draw an inverted ankh on the glass and concentrate on the subject of interest. To attack the target must be scryed, then use the black powder to attack.'

After Herbert failed to scry, Rufus used it to scry on Tewfik. The mirror was called the mirror of Gal. He saw a birds eye view of British isles, which zoomed in on marshland on the edge of the north sea. He saw a sign to the village of Harwich, then a wall and gate. There were arabs guarding the gate. The view went across a bridge onto an island where there was a large mansion. The view went through the roof into a lavish dining room. Tewfik was sitting and eating with Edward gavigan and 6 other people.

When Rufus stopped scrying, Lothar tried picking up the mirror, dropped and chipped it. The team returned to Delore's house with the mirror and other items from the desk. Richmond put on a disguise then went to visit Edwards secretary at the Penhew foundation and pretended to be a security consultant employed by Edward. Lothar then arrived and demanded to see Edward, starting a fight with the security guard and causing a distraction for Richmond. Richmond broke into Edwards office but someone spotted him and ran for the security guard. When he saw Lothar grappling the security guard he ran out looking for the police. Richmond did not find anything in the office and left by the back door and Lothar also fled.

4th March 1925

The team returned to the spice shop intending to wait for Tewfik, but there was a light on. Rufus got a very bad feeling that there was something supernatural in the shop so the team backed off. Richmond knocked on the door and persuaded Tewfik to sell him some saffron. He saw two other people inside. As Tewfik had returned to his shop, the team decided to drive to Harwich.

The team drove to Harwich and found their way to the guarded gate where they told the guards they were lost, and asked if they could turn around. Delores asked if they had any petrol. One of them phoned someone from a telephone by the gate. There seemed to be some recognition of her name by whoever they spoke to and the three guards started advancing. Luther opened fire, killing one and Richmond killed a second. Rufus pulled a shotgun from the boot of Richmond's car and blasted the third. Richmond then picked up the phone and told whoever answered that they had been shot at but the shooters then drove off, hoping to explain the noise to them. Rufus opened the gate, the cars were driven through, and used to block the bridge beyond. Rufus saw a sign saying Misr house and he recognised Misr as a name for Egypt.

The team approached the manor house. Gavigan's Bentley was parked outside the front so Lothar crept up to it and took the keys. The others crept round towards the back of the house, though Herbert was spotted by someone from a 1st floor window. Richmond crept up to the house and listened at a window. He heard Gavigan saying there had been a commotion at the gate and someone had been seen approaching the house. Gavigan also said he would summon a hunting horror to find them, and everyone should be on alert.

Richmond opened fire through the window with his tommy gun, hitting Gavigan squarely with a burst. Lothar leapt through the window and found Gavigan was lying on the floor but was not dead and was pulling off strips of his skin. There was also a chinaman in the room who Lothar shot and killed. Richmond followed Lothar and opened fire on Gavigan again. The others ran to the window from where they were hiding. Herbert tried to pull down the curtain while Delores opened fire on Gavigon. Rufus started casting the spell "Red sign of Shudde M'ell" at Gavigan. Gavigan fled up the stairs as three cultists burst in.

Hunting HorrorLothar killed two before another three burst in. Richmond opened fire on them, killing one before his gun jammed and Delores killed another. The cultists hit Richmond and Lothar as Delores killed another of them. Those outside saw a serpentine abomination in the air flying towards the manor and they hurriedly leapt through the window as Lothar killed the last cultist.

The team followed Gavigan up the stairs. They followed the trail of blood to a bedroom. Richmond burst through the door and found Gavigan flanked by two cultists and with a hideous monstrosity standing in front of them. The sight caused Richmond to go crazy and he opened fire with his tommy gun into the monstrosity until the gun jammed. Rufus fired both barrels of his shotgun but missed the monstrosity, however Delores hit it, killing it which point it shimmered then disappeared. Gavigan hit Lothar with a spell causing him to faint. Richmond pulled his revolver and killed one of the cultists. Gavigan drew a knife and attacked Richmond. Rufus hit Gavigan with his spell again, and a burst of energy dropped him to one knee. Delores shot him again and he finally collapsed dead on the floor as Herbert killed the last cultist.

A key was found on Gavigans body, presumably to the safe in his office. When the mansion was searched, Rufus and Richmond found bricks either side of the fireplace in the great hall which moved. When turned they caused two narrow passageways leading downwards to open up. The left hand passage lead down to a number of cells with three occupants. Two were women who were both pregnant. They were let loose and Herbert later arranged for their care. The team then found a room that looked like it had been a torture chamber and was not full of statues, paintings, jewellery and scrolls as well as many jars, boxes and other containers. Richmond found one book he thought was interesting. An unfinished letter was also found. It read:

Dear Aubrey, Elias has been dealt with in New York. You must stop Brady. It is stupefying that he has evaded us for so long. This man may become an obstacle to our great lord. If you wish, I will ...

Herbert found a ledger of accounts. The team took as much of the content as they could fit in the cars and the manor was set ablaze before the team left.

In the light of the blaze an Egyptian stele (a four sided column used for sacrifices) was seen in the woods. Richmond found a small flute in the grass at its base.

The team sorted through the items they recovered from Misr house. They had:
A fat ledger showing the past 3 years shipments to Ho Fong in Shanghai, Randolph Shipping in Darwin, Australia and many more.
Items of jewellery such as inverted ankhs and rings.
⚬ A box containing a bust of the black pharaoh, the human aspect of an eldar god known as Nyarl Athotep.
⚬ A Scroll containing a quicken fog spawn spell in Spanish. Ritual to create a creature when cast on a fog spawn larvae.
⚬ A metal vial sealed containing a fog spawn larvae.
⚬ A Book called the witch cult in western Europe.
⚬ A Book in several different languages Called Michelle de Notre-dame.
⚬ A Book in German called the Zohare.

Lother decided to return to Germany to try to recover his fragile mental state. Richmond introduced the group to one of his friends, Penelope Nonstop.

5th March 1925

The team went to Twifik's spice shop. They waited until it was empty, which was not until it closed. Rufus cast the red sign of Shudde M'ell spell on Twifik from the shadows across the road, but the spell caused him to go a bit crazy and ran away. Casting the spell had caused him to be contacted by an avatar which had affected him, but he was also granted knowledge of more powerful version of the spell. The rest of the team ran into spice shop while Twifik convulsed under the effects of the spell. Remington pushed him into a chair and Twifik cast a spell on him which drove him temporarily insane. Delores then shot Twifik through the heart, killing him. Penelope emptied the till and took his wallet before the team fled, to make it look like a robbery.

Herbert burnt the scroll containing the fog spawn spell when he worked out it would release a homicidal monster into the world. The others went to the Penhew foundation where Richmond and Penelope broke into Gavigans office. They opened the safe with the key found on Gavigans body. The safe was empty but there was a small button in the back which Richmond pressed. It caused a door to open in the back of one of his closets. Behind was a storage room containing a mummy sarcophagus, furniture and crates. The room was dusty but there was evidence the sarcophagus had been moved.

When they moved the sarcophagus it revealed stairs leading downwards. They fetched Rufus who was waiting outside, then descended the stairs into a room. There was seating for a number of people, a revolver, forged passports, money, a bookcase containing books and scrolls, crates, chests and emergency supplies. There was very disturbing art hanging from the walls.

Penelope opened a chest and found two silver daggers and a small stone jar inside. Rufus emptied the books and scrolls into a sack. Richmond opened one of the crates from Randolph shipping, Shanghai. Inside was a tall statue. Richmond took another small crate labelled Ho Fong Imports. The team then took everything back to the car. They then returned and took the paintings as well, before closing everything and leaving.

6th March 1925

The team went to Addison's funeral. Delores sang very badly. In the evening Delores went to the opera. Rufus read through the book of Dzyan which he had found at the Penhew foundation the previous evening. Herbert read through the Liber Ivonis, another book that had been found. It was about a wizard of Hiperboria. Penelope started studying the painting taken from Miles Shipley. As she stared at the painting she saw elements of it start to move. The team decided to destroy the painting as they suspected it could be a portal to somewhere bad.

7th March 1925

The team visited inspector Barrington to persuade him to have the painter Miles Shipley committed to an asylum. He agreed after some persuasion. The crate from Ho Fong imports was opened. Everyone got a bad feeling, but Rufus declared to it contain Cthulhu knowledge. Richmond and Herbert looked inside and saw a statue of a hideous female figure. When Rufus looked at it he had a vision of the god Nyarl Athotep, went momentarily insane and attacked Herbert. He was restrained by Herbert and Richmond and eventually drugged unconscious. The statue was then destroyed.

Richmond read a scroll from the institute which contained a spell called The dread curse of Azathoth. Herbert read a scroll with a spell to summon a hunter of Nyarl Athotep, and another with a spell called flesh ward. Rufus also read the scrolls and learned the spells.

17th March 1925

After resting and learning some of the spells they had found recently, the team travelled to Lesser Edale in the Derwent valley near Derby to investigate the killings reported in the Scoop. The was the foundations of a burned out building next to the village church, the village had a pub called the Laughing horse and castle Plum was overlooking the village on a buff.

Delores decided she wanted to stay in the castle and the team drove there. The butler answered the door. He said the master, Lord Vain was indisposed and the team could not stay. Delores got upset and told her driver to return to the village. Penelope had got out to look round and was left behind. She broke into the castle and stole a few items including a silver candle snuffer, brass candlestick holder and a mirror. She was picked up while walking back from the castle by Delores driver who had been sent back to find her. Penelope later hid the items she stole in the pub and church graveyard.

The team checked into rooms in the local pub. They then spoke to Tunwell the local policeman. The murder victims were George Osgood of Osgood farm, and Lydia Perkins, daughter of the horse dealer John Perkins. Both had been torn apart. He said Tom Courty saw the young Lawrence Vein near the Perkins residence on the night of the murder. The other Vains were Lord Arthur Vain and his daughter Eloise. He also reported shooting a large ragged dog which he thought was responsible for the deaths, though he did not think he killed it. He said the creature was only seen on a full moon. The team got directions to Courty farm so they could visit Tom Courty in the morning.

18th March 1925

In the morning the team visited Courty farm. Tom referred to Lawrence Vain as a rabscallion and believed he murdered Lydia as he saw Lawrence running away from the Perkins house. He said he had heard a rumour that the Rev Stratham was a druid, no one had seen him since the murders and his servant Sarah had not let anyone into the rectory. He also thought Lord Vain was in league with the devil and his son Lawrence controlled the beast that committed the murders. The burned out building was an Elizabethan church which had burned down in 1906. The present church had been built as a replacement.

The team then went to the rectory. An old lady answered. She said the Rev Stratham was indisposed and was not taking visitors. She showed Rufus and Penelope round the ruins of the old church. She said was caused when it was struck by lightning. Richmond and Delores sneaked into the rectory while she was distracted. They found a magazine called the Derwent quarterly order of the Golden Druid. There was also a black cat which hissed at them. They did not find Rev Stratham.

The team then looked round the church. There was no one in sight but there was a locked door in the crypt. When Richmond tried to open the door he jammed his pick in the lock. A voice was heard from behind the door saying 'Sarah, is that you? I am not to be disturbed, just leave the food outside'. Delores made a scream and the voice said 'Sarah, are you all right?' then the door opened revealing a skinny man. He said he was Rev Jeremy Stratham. The team questioned him about what had been happening. He said he had been reading a journal written in Greek dating back over 100 years by a previous vicar. It detailed a curse of the Vains and said after the 21st birthday of any daughter of the family something happened on the full moon and he believed the murders were connected. It started when the family burned a witch who laid a curse called the mark of the beast on the family. He said he was a member of the golden druids who were formed in Cambridge and dedicated themselves to studying pre roman Britain.

19th March 1925

Rufus finished reading the journal. It stated the curse was laid on an Evangeline Vain by a witch who was burned. All daughters in her family were doomed to become creatures called blood daughters on their 21st birthday. Rufus had heard of a cure in one of the books he had read. It was called the dust of Suli Iman which was sprinkled over the grave of the original person who was cursed on a full moon. The dust was made from Frankincense, sulphur and saltpetre. Delores sent her driver back to collect the book. The team also sent a telegram to Derby to have some silver bullets made.

21st March 1925

With the book Rufus started making the cure in the Rev Stratham's room. While he was doing so, a yellow-green glow appeared in the corner of the room then a hideous hound like beast stepped through. The dimensions of the room started shifting and distorting. The door appeared to be in the roof and slowly moving towards one corner. Richmond shot the beast and some blue goo oozed out. Penelope got to the door but when she opened it, there was just a brick wall beyond.

The creature bounded towards Rufus. It sprayed a blue goo at him but missed. Rufus fired back, hitting it. Richmond fired again but his gun jammed. Rufus hit it again. Something that looked like a Roman column started to form at the far end of the room. Penelope picked up a chair and threw it at the monster which attacked Rufus again. Delores found the doorway within the strange distortions of the room. Richmond and Penelope fled. The creature hit Rufus, severely wounding him, but he managed to stagger out of the room. Delores followed.

The monster did not follow, and nothing could be heard from the room. The team cautiously entered the room. It was empty but some of the blue goo had landed on the powder. Rufus told Delores how to make the powder and she made another batch without further incident.

The team then drove to the castle with Rev Stratham. He went into the castle to speak with Lord Vain. After a short while he beckoned the rest of the team in. As they entered the castle, Penelope saw a yellow glow in the woods nearby. The team was lead into the library and introduced to Lord Vain and Lawrence. He agreed to the team trying to cure the curse. They left, agreeing to return on the full moon. As they drove away, the monster appeared from the woods and started perusing them.

The team sped away in Delores's car, but the creature slowly gained on them. When it got in range the team started firing. Delores managed to hit it but it did not slow. Rufus managed to hit one of the cars tyres when a shot went wide. As the car slowed the monstrosity caught up and leapt onto the car. It was shot multiple times as it attacked Rufus but eventually fell off the car as it swerved. The monster than disappeared into a pillar that momentarily formed. Rufus returned to London for treatment while the others stayed to perform the ritual.

24th March 1925

The ritual was performed and Lord Vain reported his daughter was not affected by the curse that night. The team then returned to London.

28th March 1925

Rufus was discharged from hospital. The team booked passage to Egypt, except Delores who needed to return to America for a shareholders meeting.
