The journey to Blaviken took a week. It was another half days walk from the dock to the town but we got a lift on a cart which was heading to Blaviken. On the way the carter told a tale of a two headed dragon terrorising the local farmers and taking livestock. When we arrived in Blaviken and found a bar. The barmaid asked if we had just arrived then told us she had heard from 'Mac' that the beast was a giant grey bat which attacked on a full moon. I spoke with Mac who was in the bar. He said there were two beasts which looked like giant grey dogs with red eyes. We paid for rooms for the night and a meal. Scathe drank far too much mead.
In the morning we asked after the mage Stragabor who had asked us to come. The barman said he had seen two of the beasts during a full moon. They looked like black wolves which walked on 2 legs. We were told that Stragabor lived in a tower at the back end of town. We approached the tower and Sile met us on the way as she had made her own way to Blaviken on horseback. The door opened as we approached the tower and inside was two golem's. One said it was called Osimandius and Bulgar told it we were here to visit Stragabor. Osimandius went to fetch him.
Stragabar said the problem was a werewolf leading a pack of dire wolves. He was offering 500 orins for the werewolf's heart and 250 orins for killing each dire wolf. Werewolves are people under a curse and transform with the rising of the moon. They are very fast and regenerate but silver and magic can help. They are also vulnerable to curse oil. He also offered us guest rooms where we could stay while hunting it.
My knowledge of Dire wolves were that they were just large wolves and not susceptible to silver but werewolves were cursed humans and susceptible to silver. We heard of a Miriam the Mystic in the tavern who made herbal remedies and told fortunes so went to visit her to find out if she knew any more about what was going on. She said the beast of the forest was a dangerous creature of the night. She told Bulgar's fortune and said he should seek out Chen, Argus and Radic who were local farmers. She also said he would encounter a dwarf offering employment. There would be great danger and great reward, but do not trust Abigail. We found Radic in the market. He had seen two giant hounds with glowing red eyes and spines on their back. He said he heard a ruckus from a pig sty and saw the hounds, each had a whole pig in its mouth. They had run off into the forest. His farm was to the East. Chen's farm was to the North and Argus's farm was to the south.
Radic pointed out Argus and Chen to us. Chen said one of his cows had been taken by two black furry creatures. Argus had lost poultry the previous night but had only seen tracks in the mud. We agreed to return with Argus to his farm but he wanted to visit the tavern first. A bard called Dandylion in the tavern told us a woman called Sterbur had sought Stargabor's help to cure her of being barren. Stragabor offered to make her fertile but to do so he cursed her to be a werewolf, and when she learned what he had done she refused payment, whereby he beat her, raped her and left her in the woods. She was rumoured to have been in a relationship with Malec, the son of the local lord.
We finally left the tavern and travelled through the forest to Argus's house. Argus went to the barn to check on his chickens and we went into the house to meet with his wife where Bulgar's medallion started vibrating. Bulgar pressed a silver coin into her palm, and she screamed. She then shed her skin, turning into a scabrous werewolf which attacked as two dire wolves crashed through the windows. Bulgar quickly killed the werewolf, stabbing her through the heart. The dire wolves fled but we heard mournful howling from the barn. We went to investigate the barn and the dire wolves attacked from the darkness.
Bulgar killed one of the dire wolves but another werewolf jumped on him from the roof of the barn. Bulgar seriously wounded the werewolf which started to limp off while I killed the second dire wolf. As Bulgar followed the werewolf to kill it, a portal appeared and Stragobor stepped through with his golem, demanding the heart. He said he did not want the heart from Argus, he wanted the woman's heart which was unfortunate as Bulgar had impaled it. Stragabor refused to pay us, told Bulgar never to return to Blaviken and then left by a portal.
While I harvested some components from the werewolves and dire wolves an old woman appeared in the edge of the forest. She said she was Sterbur and we had killed her son. She asked us to come back to her lair and said we would be safe. I was apprehensive but Bulgar wanted to go with her. She asked for our help and wanted us to kill Stragabor to avenge her and lift the curse on her. She said her father was lord Dulcus of Novograd and that he would reward us for saving her. We agreed as it would be a chance of being paid and getting revenge on the mage for double crossing us.
We wrote a note to Stragabor saying we had killed another female werewolf called Sterbur but the heart would now cost 1500 orins if he wanted it. We got someone from a nearby cottage to deliver the note to Stragabor and we waited outside Sterbur's lair. We saw a golden glow and Stragabor walked out of the lair. He had clearly opened a portal inside. He offered 500 orins for the heart but Bulgar saw Stragabor was actually an illusion and charged into the lair. Inside was the real Stragabor and his golem Osimandius. Stragabor was surrounded in a shield of fire but Bulgar charged through the fire and ran Stragabor through, getting badly burned in the process. Osimandius immediately stopped as Stragabor died and I quickly quenched the fire round Bulgar. Sterbur came in and said she was cured.
We took Argus's horse and cart and set off to Novograd with Sterbur. The journey took a week. On the way we learned lord Dulcus had remarried and had more children. The high status manor houses were in a guarded enclosure but I was able to get us access. Dulcus was happy his daughter was returned but said it was embarrassing as he had said she was dead. He offered 3000 orins as a reward for her return. Dulcas said he might have use of our services. He had recently purchased a property in the city but it was haunted and no one would enter. He wanted us to clear it out. It had been owned by a mage called Ludo Lividicus Hanik. We agreed to clear out the house for 1000 orins though Dulcas's mage Mendacus looked worried.
