Following the recent peace signed between the Zhodani and the Imperium after years of frontier wars, the Zhodani High Consoltate have dispatched Count Avon Kawling as an emissary to the Imperium. Both sides are still extremely wary of each other, and his objective is to ease the tensions between the two sides in order to avoid any further outbreak of hostilities.

The Imperium have attached Baron Kawling to the ISS Arnold Rimmer, under the command of Lt.Cmd. H.G.Nelson. The crew of the ISS Arnold Rimmer form a special troubleshooting team dispatched by the Imperium to the furthest reaches of the galaxy for missions that require stealth and subtlty.
