An ABORT team was assigned to the Hathaway.

After the Borg attack on Frontier Day, and the subsequent dissolution of the Collective due to the neurolytic pathogen, the remaining intact remnants of the uninfected Borg still trouble the Alpha and Beta Quadrants. Starfleet has formed Project ABORT - Anti-Borg Operations Response Team. It is a multi-species, handpicked team, resistant to assimilation, commissioned as a quick response team to the Borg threat. It is hoped that this immunity to assimilation will give them their greatest advantage, while removing the Borg's biggest advantage - their ability to learn by assimilation. Starfleet may also send intel and further orders as they are developed. The team also has upgrades for your ship - transphasic torpedoes, adaptive phaser protocols, Omega particle signal flares, and metaphasic shields allowing the ship to enter the corona of a star, among other upgrades.

The members of ABORT assigned to the Hathaway were:
Doc Haber, an EMH1
Ensign Vokaya, a Horta security guard
Lt Cmdr Mara, a changeling and leader of the team
Lt Oculan, a Medusan and navigator

The ABORT team were tasked to attempt to obtain a Borg Veniculum (controlling node), other data nodes, a warp coil, and drones or medical data. Activity was detected near Alpha Omicron. Omega flares were used to draw a Borg vessel in.

The ABORT team boarded a Borg cube which came to investigate the flares. They obtained three data nodes, and set off an EMP grenade as a distraction giving them time to take a transwarp coil. The doctor was also able to take an injured drone. Analysis of the data nodes gave the location of three other Borg vessels, information about how the neurolytic pathogen was assimilated and neutralised by the Borg, and narrowed down location of the Borg home world as well as information helpful in installing the transwarp coil.

Corvus installed the coil but it got the attention of the Borg cube. A transphasic torpedo was fired at the cube, disabling it and allowing us to escape. I started researching a process to trigger deassimilation with Haber, and determined now the neurolytic pathogen could be modified to trigger deassimilation. The process was tried out on the drone we had captured and it was successful.

Stotz scanned the area round the nearest Borg cube. It was in a low power mode. The Hathoway went to the area and Stolz scanned for the veniculum. Mara then beamed onto to the cube with her team to retrieve it. The veniculum was beamed out but the Borg raised a shield trapping the boarding party. Stotz succeeded in beaming them back after recalibrating the transporter. It was decided to infect the veniculum with the deassimilation virus and replace it, so Mara's team returned to the cube to do that and the medical ship McCoy was called in to handle the Borg drones once the deassimilation took affect.

The veniculum was then brought back to the Hathaway for further analysis. Stotz analysed data nodes on the cube and narrowed down the Borg home world location further. Vokaya found a back door into the verniculum while I worked with Haber on a deassimilation weapon. Oculan navigated the deassimilated cube into a nearby nebula to hide it and Vokaya discovered the coordinates to a previously unknown transwarp hub in another data node which was labelled as being near the borg home world. There was also a reference to someone called primus who was important to the Borg.

It was decided to take the cube with the Hathaway inside through a transwarp conduit to the transwarp hub. On exiting the hub we scanned the nearby area and located a planet. The planet looked completely Borg so the ABORT team went to investigate. The planets surface was scanned and data points were identified running to a point 30 metres below the surface. Vokaya burrowed down and found a small cavern in which was what looked like a brain in a jar integrated into Borg structures. It did not respond to speech. Oculan tried telepathic contact but it was only minimally aware of us as it was busy controlling the world. Clearly this brain was Primus. A tricorder was hooked into the data connections feeding the brain. All communications sent through the tricorder got responses like irrelevant, you will be assimilated to increase our perfection.

Captain Noolan was asked to fire an omega particle flare to attract the Borg. The ABORT team then inserted a recall command through the Primus to attract Borg from further afield. Borg started beaming in and they were fought off while deassimilation routines were inserted by the ABORT team directly into the Primus. The ABORT team then beamed back to the Hathaway.
